Regain gut health, the source of total health

As more and more studies confirm, the gut is of the utmost importance to our overall health and immune system. And there is a lot of work to do, because millions of people suffer from gut diseases like candida, Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, ulcerative colitis and more. And how many other diseases will eventually prove to have their starting point in the problematic gut? I guess this will be one of the most important health issues of the coming decennia.

At the same time we do know and most doctors will agree that the use of antibiotics is destroying the health (good bacteria) of the gut lining.

Probiotics become more accepted to help repair problematic gut conditions. The most natural way to heal the gut appears to be by diet. There are fermented foods like organic sauerkraut, miso, tempeh, lassi, etc., containing a lot of natural probiotics.

A remarkable person who went literally through this whole problem field and cured herself the natural way is Jini Patel, who wrote a complete program to cure gut diseases. She figured out specific diets for well defined gut conditions including sample menus and reference guides. A lot of real life examples are featured. The program consists of a book, a DVD with all the information you need to take action and get your gut back on track, like treatment plans, candida test, a food diary, printable charts, diets, etc. If you suffer from any gut related illness, this is a must read as far as I’m concerned. I went through it and found it really worthwhile. So, I became an affiliate of them. If you like getting more information, click this link to the official site of the Listen To Your Gut Program.

Please let me know by your comments below (no need to login) what you think of it and what your experiences are on the road to good gut health, the natural way.

Why only 10% of science makes you healthier

Actually it’s probably less than 10% but we’ll never know exactly.

The problem with most science is that it is based on these ideas that we consider false:

  1. that one can only be sure of facts that are measurable
  2. that one can measure everything with existing equipment
  3. that one can only be sure of facts that are repeatable
  4. that ultimate truth exists
  5. that material and spirit are two different things
  6. that one gets objective, genuine results from industry sponsored research
  7. that something is impossible if it doesn’t fit in known theories
  8. that one can fool nature without understanding holistic laws
  9. that making disappear symptoms is curing desease
  10. that the doctor knows best and the patient be patient, shut their mouth and just obey
  11. that food should be different from medication
  12. that using chemicals that are isolated from their natural context will not destroy the body and health

I’ll never forget the argument of a philosopher, called Etienne Vermeersch, in a discussion about metaphysics on a national TV channel. He stated:

It cannot be true because it is impossible.

That is how a lot of scientists think. Isn’t this arrogant? It is costing a lot of lives, because therefore many good therapies are banned from hospitals and insurance, while they have proved to work.

Macrobiotic diet: is it still relevant?

teapot

Many years ago I used to deal a lot with the macrobiotic diet, once introduced by Georges Ohsawa from Japan, who died of a heart attack. The big question is whether it is beneficial for our health. Nowadays a lot of these points turned out to be not so healthy in my opinion. The main points that are at least food for discussion:

  1. Drink less and drink only when you are thirsty <— recent studies show that a lot of people don’t drink enough, elderly in particular, and drinking more (good) water is beneficial in general.
  2. Eat mostly grains <— it turns out that these grains, and particularly wheat, have foodstuffs in them as a defense by nature, to slow down digestion and lots of people have difficulties digesting the gluten in the grains.
  3. Use a lot of sea salt <— sea salt contains much more minerals than “kitchen salt”, but at the same time it is important to keep the work of the kidneys within moderate levels, without too much sea salt.
  4. Every kind of food can be put on a scale of yin and yang and used accordingly <— well, the world appears to be much more complicated than yin and yang. You can’t say this condition or that food is more yin or yang, because they are very complicated combinations and this simplistic yin-yang taxonomy just isn’t enough to be useful.

So after all, we learned a lot about healthy diets and personally dismissed this macrobiotic diet. Judge for yourself though. Nevertheless it’s quite possible that people increased their health with macrobiotics, because if you are living the average way of life with heaps of refined sugar, unhealthy fats, coke, beer, additives, meat, non-organic food, etc., any change in diet will be an improvement.

What are your experiences with macrobiotics? Your comments are much appreciated.

10,000 barrels of nuclear waste leaking at nuclear plant in Belgium

After investigations, it is now clear that a lot of barrels from a nuclear plant in Belgium, are leaking nuclear waste.
No problem, the officials from Niras (official nuclear waste organization) say. It is low-activity radioactive waste. But the parliament of Belgium is not pleased with this situation.
The nuclear plant at Doel in the North of Belgium, is not allowed to send these barrels to anywhere anymore, until the problem is solved. And there doesn’t seem to be a solution at this moment. Many of these barrels have a gel leaking out.
And also, in the eighties, these kind of barrels were just dumped into the ocean(!) and now questions arise about what the conditions of them could be at this moment.

Avastin® finally banned

banned in Belgium
© iStockphoto

Avastin®, used with breast cancer chemotherapy, is now finally banned in Belgium too, by the College for Oncology. Apparently this poisonous drug has no beneficial results but causes side effects, like bleedings, blood clots, stomach and intestine perforations.

On top of that, it costs the patient about 50.000 €. That said Mattias Neyt (KCE) on Belgium Television VRT.

In the US, this drug was banned already in 2011.

So one can ask if this is normal. Using a drug that is poisoning already sick people, while it doesn’t help and even makes them more sick. A known fact for two years. While there are so many natural therapies, that go after the source of cancer.

That seems to be a real demonstration of how things work in mainstream medicine.

As a side-note: this news was read out on national TV by the news anchor Martine Tanghe, who herself suffered from that disease in 2012. What are you thinking now, Martine?

Radiation levels chart - click for full size free download 94KB (public domain)

Although this interesting chart made for the rest of us, can seem to be complicated at first sight, you should give it a try. It’s actually very easy to understand. Just start reading on top left at the blue squares, then to the greens on top right and then the red ones. It’s giving us a very good idea of how much radiation is coming from everything, from a banana to a nuclear reactor meltdown. Thanks to Randall Munroe & co, this can serve the health of humanity.

This radiation dose chart is for general education use only, not for safety procedures!

The picture is in the public domain, so you can republish it without restriction.

Wishing all the best and strong health to the people of Japan

Poison in disguise: Aspartame upgraded to Neotame

food sweeteners © Shutterstock

Aspartame (brands: Nutrasweet®, Aminosweet®) or neotame? Several names for artificial sweeteners, but what difference does the name make, since they are all based on the same aspartic acid. Some are even more poisonous than others though.

But after so many bad reports about neurotoxic and immunotoxic health problems with aspartame (E951), they needed another name. Well, Neotame (E961) appears to be even more toxic because it’s “enhanced aspartame”. We can think that easily because it’s between 7.000 and 13.000 times sweeter than table sugar. My sweetness. Sounds healthy? Moreover, the problem with reports is that they are mostly funded by the industry and in case of negative results, funds are often retracted.

Neotame is also used (as Sweetos) to camouflage the taste of “less fresh” animal food, so that cattle is eating it nevertheless.

Shortest road to solve hunger: agro-ecology?

Olivier De Schutter, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, found out that the best way to solve global hunger is the agroecological approach.
That means agroforestry, mixed crop-livestock, biological pest control, intercropping, etc.

This is totally against the domination of food production by Monsanto and the likes, who are trying to force agriculture using their GMO seeds (claimed as intellectual property) and having about 50% of this market in their pocket already.

As Olivier De Schutter sees it, on the long run, agroecological farming techniques outperform modern mass production farming schemes, which are about genetically improved seeds, chemical fertilizers and extended use of machinery.
He brings together scientists, policymakers and farmers organizations to figure recommendations to the Committee on World Food Security.

Belgium pushes HPV vaccination for girls in schools, free

How to get a HPV vaccination score from ± 40 % coverage to ± 90 % of the twelve year old girls? Make it free and bring it to the schools. This is what is being announced in Flanders, the North part of Belgium. While there are a lot of adverse reports on the long term risks and even those immediately after vaccination. From Guillian-Barre-syndrome and loss of consciousness to permanent disability. It’s all there. But as always, no questions asked and focus is on the battle against cervical cancer instead of how to be healthy without pharmaceuticals.
Let’s hope parents inform themselves seriously before they act as the big pharma industry dictates.

Are your dental fillings making you ill?

AmalgamLOGOAnimA must see documentary from ITV about proof of poisoning amalgam dental fillings.

This is good journalism. Thanks ITV. How is it possible that millions of people get this poison into their mouth? Poison? Yes. Amalgam fillings are about 50% mercury, which is one of the most poisonous things in the world. You can’t put mercury into the environment, but you can put it in your mouth? What a world. In some countries it is perfectly legal, while in other countries (Sweden, …) amalgam fillings are completely banned. Not everyone gets problems immediately after placement of silver fillings, but how many proof do we need, to know that mercury comes out of the fillings, sooner or later damaging our health? Watch this documentary and make your own conclusions.

The Blue Buddha: Lost Secrets of Tibetan Medicine – documentary

“Twelve hundred years ago the people of Tibet developed a comprehensive medical system. They understood how the mind affects the body. And they encoded this knowledge in a series of elaborate paintings called thangkas. Blue Buddha: Lost Secrets of Tibetan Medicine traces the odyssey of traditional Tibetan medicine from it’s roots in ancient Tibet, to a worldwide interest in it’s traditional medical wisdom.

The Great Global Warming Swindle documentary

It is always good to check another voice on climate change, that has a complete opposite picture of global warming – global cooling. This is the other side. Many scientists who disagree with the common idea of CO2-connected global warming and they tell you why.

Let’s never limit ourselves by just looking to the main stream media only. They somehow (advertising money?) rarely mention true critics or opposite points of view.

Is GM food slipping in from the back door?

In Africa, China, India and developing countries, it’s a lot easier to grow GM foods than in Europe, because it is more accepted, although GM foods are not tested well and stories of health problems are numerous. Still, tests with bio ethanol producing GM trees were refused in Belgium and then got accepted in their neighbour country The Netherlands.

In august 2009, the Egyptians surprisingly declared that they would refuse GM food. But then shortly after that, they retracted this bold statement. Why?

National flu advisor does not get vaccination

The Belgian National Flu Commissioner and main advisor of the government, professor Marc Van Ranst, was interviewed on national TV station VRT on November 5th in the program “Koppen“. While he declares the swine flu vaccination “as safe as a vaccine can be”, when asked about his own vaccination and his baby’s, his answer is that they are in good health and they leave this stab for the people who need it more. The Belgian government ordered 12.6 million vaccination units, which is more than the number of Belgium’s residents.
